Funeral of Bishop to take place today

Hundreds of people are expected to turn out later today for the funeral of Bishop of Kilmore Francis McKiernan.

Hundreds of people are expected to turn out later today for the funeral of Bishop of Kilmore Francis McKiernan.

Dr McKiernan was Bishop of the border diocese for 26 years up until his retirement in 1998.

The funeral mass takes place at 12pm at the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Phelim in Co Cavan.

Cardinal Desmond Connell and Papal Nuncio Archbisop Guiseppe Lazarotto are to be amongst the co-celebrants.
