The chief executive of the Health Service Executive has defended the controversial PPARS computer system that was the subject of a highly critical report from the Comptroller and Auditor General this week.

The Government's spending watchdog said the project, which was suspended earlier this year, ended up costing €131m due to poor management and the inappropriate use of external consultants.
