Deely family seeks garda unit for missing persons
The family of a Kildare man who has been missing for five years has called for the establishment of a special missing persons unit within the Gardaí.
Trevor Deely, a bank official working in Dublin, disappeared after leaving his office Christmas party on December 8, 2000.
The 23-year-old was last seen on CCTV footage at 4am on Baggot Street bridge in Dublin city.
Today is the fifth anniversary of his disappearance and his family is convinced that he is still alive.
His father, Michael Deely, said: "To this day, nothing has shown up to indicate anything sinister or foul has happened with Trevor, so we remain very hopeful that Trevor is alive and well and will be back to us."
They are now seeking a dedicated garda unit to deal with missing persons cases, saying this would bring more expertise to tracing people who disappear in unexplained circumstances.
