Kenny demands Callely's resignation

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has called for the resignation of Junior Transport Minister Ivor Callely.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has called for the resignation of Junior Transport Minister Ivor Callely.

The call follows revelations that painting work carried out at Mr Callely's Dublin home in the 1990s was paid for by the building firm John Paul Construction.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, told the Dáil this morning that he regarded the matter as serious and would be speaking to the junior minister later today.

Mr Kenny, however, said he would accept nothing less than Mr Callely's resignation.
