A scheduled three-day hearing of a motion on a legal issue brought by Mr George Redmond in relation to a corruption charge against him has opened at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A scheduled three-day hearing of a motion on a legal issue brought by Mr George Redmond in relation to a corruption charge against him has opened at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mr Redmond (aged 81), the former assistant city and county manager, pleaded not guilty to receiving £10,000 on a date between June 1, 1985 and June 1, 1986 as an inducement or reward for doing or forebearing to do anything in respect of a compulsory purchase order by Dublin City Council on 167 acres of land situated at Bussardstown and Coolmine.

Judge Joseph Matthews is hearing submissions by Mr Brendan Grehan SC (Mr Aongus Buttanshsaw BL) for Mr Redmond, and from Mr Patrick J McCarthy SC (with Mr Patrick McGrath BL), for the prosecution.

The proceedings cannot be reported for legal reasons.
