Ex-assistant city manager Redmond to face corruption charges
Former Dublin assistant city and county manager George Redmond is due to appear in court today to face corruption charges.
The 79-year-old is charged with alleged corruption relating to land at Buzzardstown, Co Dublin.
He was originally due to go on trial on December 1, 2004 at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, but it was put back as Redmond was due to go into hospital for surgery.
It is understood lawyers for the pensioner will make an application for the court to place a permanent stay on the trial on grounds of his ill-health.
A previous corruption conviction against Redmond was quashed by the Court of Criminal Appeal on the grounds that new information had come to light and needed further investigation.
