The Government has formally signed up to United Nations' Global Patient Safety Challenge.

The challenge is an initiative undertaken by the UN's World Health Organisation in an effort to ensure the safety of patients in hospitals and other institutions.

Its main aim is to improve hygiene among healthcare workers in order to prevent patients from contracting infections like MRSA.
