A man died following a fall on a Kerry mountain range, gardaí confirmed today.

The climber, believed to be an Englishman in his 20s, was last seen early on Tuesday near Carrauntoohill in the Macgillycuddy Reeks, Co Kerry.

A body was discovered on the east side of the mountain by search and rescue teams at around 10.30am today.

A spokesman for Kerry Mountain Rescue said all indications were that the body was that of the missing climber from England.

The man, an experienced climber, had been due back with relatives in Waterford last night and they raised the alarm when he failed to appear.

He stayed in a hostel in Killarney on Monday night and his car was found on the western side of Carrauntoohill, near Coomloughra at the foot of the mountain.
