PSNI investigating suspected blast bomb explosion

Police in the North are investigating a suspected blast bomb explosion in a rural area of Co Antrim close to the outskirts of Belfast.

Nobody was injured in the explosion, which happened just after 10pm last night in the Mossley area.

Local residents reported hearing a loud bang and a car accelerating away from the scene just before the blast.

Suspected blast bomb components were found on the road afterwards.

It is unclear why the device was detonated in the area, which has been closed to traffic while the PSNI conducts technical examinations.
