Two men were still in critical condition in hospital today after separate assaults in Dublin and Limerick.

A 28-year-old man is in itensive care in Tallaght Hospital after he was stabbed in Clondalkin at 8pm on Friday.

The man was attacked by a group of men while he was walking near the roundabout between Fonthill Road and New Nagor Road.

A Garda spokeswoman said a 22-year old man was still being questioned about the attack at Clondalkin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A 19-year-old man who was arrested under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act has been released without charge and a file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí have appealed for passing motorists who witnessed the attack to come forward.

In Limerick, an 18-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted in the city on Friday night.

He suffered head injuries in the attack on the Old Cratloe Road.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward.
