University professor to chair Dublin Transport Authority

The Minister for Transport has announced the team responsible for setting up the Dublin Transport Authority.

The Chairwoman of the team will be Trinity College Professor Margaret O'Mahoney.

She will become head of the Authority, which will oversee the implementation of the Government's ambitious plans for Dublin transport.

Professor O’Mahoney, the Director of the Centre for Transport Research in Trinity College, will be one of the team to put into action the €34.4bn Transport 21 plan.

She’ll be joined by two officials from the Department of Transport and a special advisor to Minister Martin Cullen.

They’ll finalise the structure of the new Authority.

Professor O’Mahoney has previously worked on a number of committees of the US Transportation Research Board, as well as on road programmes in developing countries.

She’s currently a member of the board of the railway Procurement Agency but will be stepping down to take up her new post.
