Men released after questioning over teen's death

Three men questioned about the hit-and-run death of a teenager in south Belfast were today released by police.

They were arrested after Gary Whittley, 19, was knocked down as he crossed a section of the Donegall Road on Friday.

The victim, from Felt Street in the Sandy Row area, was taken to the nearby Royal Victoria Hospital but died from his injuries.

A Rover 600 car believed to be the vehicle which struck Mr Whittley was later found burnt out a mile away, off the Ormeau Road.

Four men from the city were taken into custody, only for one to be freed later.

Police today confirmed the other three had also been released pending further inquiries.
