Mussel pickers rescued from rising tide in Shannon Estuary

Six men were rescued in the Shannon Estuary this afternoon after they were cut off by rising waters while collecting mussels.

Six men were rescued in the Shannon Estuary this afternoon after they were cut off by rising waters while collecting mussels.

The group had gone to Poulnasherry Bay near Moyasta in a tractor and jeep but were left stranded by the incoming tide at around 3pm.

One of the party raised the alarm by making an emergency call on a mobile phone.

They were picked up shortly before 4pm by the Kilrush lifeboat.
