Report on Seamus Ludlow murder may be published today

The conclusions of the Barron Inquiry into the murder of Co Louth man Seamus Ludlow could be published as early as this evening.

The report is due to be delivered today to the Oireachtas justice committee, which will then decide whether to lay it before the Dáil and Seanad.

Mr Ludlow, a 47-year-old forestry worker, was found shot dead near his home in Dundalk in May 1976.

At the time, Gardaí told his family he was murdered by the IRA on suspicion of being an informer, but it has since emerged that he was actually killed by loyalists.

His family believe the authorities on both sides of the border colluded to conceal the truth about the killing in order to protect an actual informer.
