Gardaí are investigating today after a woman in her 20s was raped twice over several hours after she left bar in Tralee, Co Kerry.

The woman, who had been drinking in a pub in the town centre on Wednesday night, left at around 1am before being attacked.

It is understood she met three men and they headed towards the Botharbui/St Patrick’s Bungalows area of the town.

The woman was dragged into a laneway behind a row of houses where she suffered a serious sexual assault. It is understood she was attacked a second time inside a house.

The woman managed to escape hours later and was taken to hospital in Cork's Mercy Hospital for treatment.

It is the third serious sexual assault in Tralee in recent months.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 2am and 7.30am yesterday morning and has any information that may assist the investigation to contact detectives on 066 7102300.
