Parents can't take part in Garda inquiry into son's death

The parents of a 14-year-old boy who died in Garda custody said today they would refuse to co-operate with the inquiry into his arrest, detention and death.

Pat and Siobhan Rossiter said they couldn’t afford the expense involved and claimed it wouldn't answer whether their son Brian died from a Garda assault.

The teenager was detained overnight in Clonmel in September 2002.

Following a meeting of three legal teams and the senior counsel appointed to chair the inquiry, his father said they were bitterly disappointed:

Mr Rossiter said: “It's not that we don't want to co-operate with an enquiry - we just don't have any choice.”
