The woman, who is in her 30s, was found by passers-by at 7.20pm yesterday lying face down in a laneway beside Herbert Park.

She was taken to St Vincents Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where her condition is described as critical.

Superintendent Kieran Kenny of Donnybrook Garda Station said detectives were trying to find out what had caused the woman’s injuries.

“We want to speak to anyone who was in Herbert Park between 6.30pm and 7.30pm who may have met this lady or seen some suspicious activity,” he said.

The laneway where the woman was found was adjacent to the 32-acre Herbert Park and beside the River Dodder walk.

The woman is unconscious in Beaumont hospital and her family are at her bedside. She lived close to Herbert Park and regularly for walks there.

Detectives working in the incident room in Donnybrook Garda station are trying to find out if her injuries were caused by a fall induced by illness or an assault.
