Government TD, Jim McDaid, who fronted state-sponsored road safety campaigns was disqualified from driving for two years and fined €750 today for motoring offences.
The Donegal doctor pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving after he was stopped by gardai several miles outside Naas, County Kildare in April.
Mr McDaid had left the Punchestown horseracing festival where he had spent the day in a hospitality tent before getting into his car and driving towards Dublin.
