Two police officers were injured overnight after they were attacked with bricks and other missiles in west Belfast while responding to a fire at a petrol station.

Two police officers were injured overnight after they were attacked with bricks and other missiles in west Belfast while responding to a fire at a petrol station.

Around 150 youths took part in the trouble which flared after a gas cylinder was deliberately set alight on the Andersonstown Road.

A male officer received head injuries and a female officer’s leg was hurt during the disturbance. Minor damage was also caused to five police Land Rovers.

The PSNI confirmed one man and a male juvenile were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and disorderly behaviour.

The Fire Service extinguished the blaze shortly after the alarm was raised around 10pm last night.
