Irish Ferries has tonight been served with two weeks strike notice by SIPTU following the announcement today of the company's intention to proceed with redundancies on its operations to and from Britain.

Irish Ferries has tonight been served with two weeks strike notice by SIPTU following the announcement today of the company's intention to proceed with redundancies on its operations to and from Britain.

The company announced earlier today that it was not in a position to compete effectively because of high labour costs and was now hoping to replace most of its current staff of 543 with crews from Eastern Europe.
