Govt urged to provide more funding for drug treatment

An organisation working with homeless people and heroin addicts in Dublin has called on the Government to provide more funding for drug treatment services.

In its annual report for 2004, the Merchant's Quay Project said there were only 30 detoxification beds and 150 residential beds to treat almost 15,000 heroin addicts in Dublin.

The organisation said it treated 3,300 heroin addicts last year, including 450 new users of the drug.
