Fears of escalating violence in Belfast

There are fears that violence may escalate tonight after clashes between police and loyalists today in Belfast.

Trouble flared as marchers passed the Springfield Road area, where today's Orange Order parade was re-routed.

Automatic gunfire and blast bombs thrown by loyalists have injured at least six police officers.

Two civilians were also wounded, one by gunfire and the other by a blast bomb.

To the north of the city, a bus has been hi-jacked and set on fire, and a news crew’s van was attacked.
