Gardaí to seek more funds to tackle Dublin crime gangs

The Gardaí are reportedly planning to seek more funding from the Government to tackle organised crime gangs in Dublin.

Reports this morning said garda sources had indicated that the €6.5m allocated to Operation Anvil last May was set to run out at the end of October.

The reports said the Gardaí would soon be seeking extra funding to extend and intensify the operation.

The development follows criticism from the Labour Party of the failure to crack down on organised crime in Dublin.

Labour said the assassination of a known drug dealer in west Dublin this week proved that Operation Anvil had failed to achieve its objective.
