Clothes pegs that predict rain to go on market

Weather-predicting clothes pegs will soon be available in Ireland.

Weather-predicting clothes pegs will soon be available in Ireland.

The clothes pegs have in-built software that predicts rainfall and automatically close if it is going to rain, preventing householders from hanging out clothes.

The pegs will cost €150 when they hit the Irish market.

English inventor Oliver McCarthy designed the pegs specifically so that each clothes peg knows when it is being used. When consumers remove the peg from the peg holder it stops forecasting the weather and remains in the same locked mode until it is put back.

“I was just looking for a situation around the home and an existing household product that has some kind of problem and uncertainty associated with it. Clothes pegs and hanging out your washing and whether or not it’s going to rain kind of just hit me,” Mr McCarthy said.
