An Irish Air Corps pilot is due to begin an attempt to break the 'round-Ireland solo sailing record later today.

Captain Mick Liddy is due to depart from Dun Laoghaire this afternoon on a 40ft racing yacht after weeks of delays due to bad weather.

He is hoping to shave at least a day off the current record of seven days and 10 hours, which was set in 2001.
