Petrol and paint bomb attack 'sectarian'
Police in Derry are treating a petrol and paint bomb attack on a loyalist estate today as sectarian.
Several devices were thrown shortly before 10pm by nationalists at the Fountain estate.
There were no reports of injuries or damage to property.
The attacks came as a town in Co Tyrone recovered from sectarian clashes yesterday that left seven police officers injured and resulted in the rest of four people.
A riot broke out in Castlederg as members of the Protestant Black Preceptory passed through the nationalist Ferguson Crescent area of the town while Tyrone's GAA supporters celebrated their All-Ireland Gaelic Football Championship quarter final victory over Dublin.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said one of their officers suffered a broken cheekbone as they tried to break up the disturbances.
A spokesman confirmed: “At 5.55pm a parade was coming from Newtownstewart via an approved route when a number of people came out of a bar, interfered with a banner and assaulted members of the parade and police officers.”
