Couple tied up by masked raiders

Gardaí were today trying to track down a gang who tied up and robbed a middle-aged couple in Waterford.

The gang arrived at the couple’s house, which is located down at the end of a secluded avenue in the village of Blenheim, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The three men were wearing balaclavas and tied up the couple, who are in their 50s, before stealing their red BMW car and a small sum of money, which included a €500 note.

A Garda spokeswoman said the couple had been slightly injured during the robbery but had managed to free themselves to raise the alarm.

“The assistance of the public is sought in notifying the Gardai in Waterford if they are suspicious of anyone tendering a €500 note in the vicinity of Waterford,” she said.

Gardaí have also appealed for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the Blenheim area to come forward.

The couple’s car has been recovered.
