PSNI officers attacked during Belfast street clashes

PSNI officers came under attack with petrol bombs and other missiles last night during street clashes between rival nationalist and loyalist youths in north Belfast.

The disturbances in the Brompton and Cranbrook areas were the latest incident in an upsurge in sectarian violence in the city over the past couple of weeks.

Two groups of up to 30 youths were involved in last night's clashes, which follow similar violence in north and east Belfast over the weekend.

Earlier yesterday, a number of Catholic and Protestant homes were also attacked with petrol and paint bombs.
