Govt to help laid-off Hospira workers

The Government has promised to do all it can to find alternative employment for workers at Hospira in Donegal town.

The US pharmaceutical and medical devices company is to close next year with the loss of 560 jobs.

Operations will be transferred to plants in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.

The company's Sligo plant won’t be affected by the decision.

Hospira had been a flagship employer in south Donegal for over 25 years.

Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan, whose constituency office is nearby, said the IDA, FAS and Enterprise Ireland would swing into action to help find new jobs for those laid-off.
