Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern has reiterated the Government's position that the fate of the Colombia Three is a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The three men, who are on the run from Colombian justice, turned themselves into Gardai yesterday and were later released without charge.
James Monaghan, Martin McCauley and Niall Connolly had been in hiding since returning to Ireland in recent months.
"We have to stand back and allow the independent [judicial] process to take its course," Mr Ahern said today. "These are not matters within the political realm."
