Two French boats detained for alleged fishing breaches

The Naval Service has detained two French trawlers off the south-west coast this week for alleged breaches of fishing regulations.

The service said today that the Veni was detained 65 miles from Dingle on Monday on suspicion of retaining undersize fish on board.

The second vessel, L'Etel, was detained in the same area this morning for alleged logbook infringements.

Both trawlers were intercepted by the LE Aoife and escorted to Castletownbere in Co Cork, where they were handed over to gardaí.

The Naval Service has detained a total of 26 vessels so far this year for alleged fishing breaches in Irish waters.
