A proposed new public transport bridge over the River Dodder in Dublin has run into local opposition.

The Green Party claimed today that the proposed bridge, linking the Dublin Docklands with the Poolbeg peninsula, would choke Ringsend with extra traffic.

Local resident and Green Party TD John Gormley said he suspects the longer-term use of the bridge may be used for all traffic, and not just buses and taxis.

He called for consultation with locals over the plans.
