A body was recovered from a water filled quarry in Kilkenny yesterday evening.

A body was recovered from a water filled quarry in Kilkenny yesterday evening.

The remains were found at about 8.30pm and gardaí said they had been identified as those of a man in his early 20s believed to be from the South East.

The man got into difficulty while swimming at Kilmoganny Slate Quarry, about five miles from Carrick on Suir.

A post mortem examination will take place later today.
