Deadline for latest tax evasion disclosures expires at 5pm
The deadline for voluntary disclosures under the Revenue Commissioners' latest tax evasion investigation expires at 5pm today.
Yesterday, the Revenue said almost 2,000 people had already made settlements totalling ā¬106m in relation to the use of insurance schemes to evade tax.
It said it expected a a further 8,000 people to make voluntary disclosures before today's deadline and the total amount of tax and penalties taken in could reach ā¬400m.
People who fail to make voluntary disclosures face heftier penalties than those who come clean ahead of the 5pm cut-off point.
If the ā¬400m figure is reached, it would make the insurance premium investigation one of the most lucrative ever carried out by the Revenue.
