Limerick gardaí seize €300,000 of cannabis
A notorious drugs gang has been dealt a major blow after gardaí seized €300,000 worth of cannabis destined for sale in the Limerick region.
Some 42 kilos of cannabis resin was found following weekend searches of a number of premises and vehicles in the Kilteely area of Co Limerick.
The drugs, which have an estimated street value of €300,000 were found on Saturday morning in a planned operation by the garda drugs squad in Limerick.
Gardaí have described the haul as "very significant" in terms of the on-going battle against drug trafficking by a southside Limerick drugs gang.
This latest haul brings to €2.8m the total value of drugs seized by gardaí in Limerick so far this year, compared to €2.5m for the whole of 2004.
Last month alone, 200 kilos of cannabis, with a street value of €1.4m, was discovered in a raid in Ballysheedy in Co Limerick.
On May 15, a 42-year-old Dublin man was stopped at Birdhill on the outskirts of Limerick city with More than €1m worth of cannabis in his vehicle.
