SVP set for €10m windfall after sale of Galway pub

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is set to receive a windfall of up to €10m later this year, thanks to the generosity of a Galway publican who died in 1998.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is set to receive a windfall of up to €10m later this year, thanks to the generosity of a Galway publican who died in 1998.

Maureen O'Connell identified the charity as the main beneficiary in her will.

Her pub, O'Connell's of Eyre Square, Galway, is due to be sold later this year, either by private sale or auction.

The four-storey premises comes with 15 bedrooms, and is likely to attract massive interest from developers.
