Westport wins Best Kept Town award
Westport in Co Mayo has been crowned Ireland's Best Kept Town for 2005 in the annual awards at Dublin Castle.
The cross-border competition celebrated its 10th anniversary at the ceremony.
It was set up by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council in 1995 to encourage communities north and south of the border to improve and sustain their local environments.
Moynalty in Co Meath was given the honour of Best Kept Village, while Portrush in Antrim was named Best Small Town.
