Holidaymakers depart for Malaga after latest delay

One hundred and seventy holidaymakers have finally departed for the Spanish city of Malaga after being delayed at Cork Airport for more than 24 hours.

Their flight was due to depart yesterday, but did not take off from the airport until this morning.

The incident is the latest in a series of delays involving the charter airline Eirjet, which was launched just six months ago.

Last week, one of the company's flights to the Canary Islands was delayed for more than 20 hours, apparently due to fog at Cork Airport.

An Eirjet flight from Greece also landed in Cork this morning more than 25 hours later than scheduled, while another from Malaga that was due to land early this morning will not now do so until 3.30pm.

The reason for the delays is unclear and angry passengers have vowed to take action against the airline when they return from their holidays.
