The vice-chairman of the North's Policing Board has claimed that the RUC was prepared to sacrifice one of its own officers in the 1970s in order to protect an informer.

Denis Bradley claimed yesterday that the local RUC commander in Derry, Frank Lagan, who died last week, told him Special Branch was aware that the IRA was planning an operation that would lead to the death of a policemen.
