Drumm new head of Health Service Executive

Professor Brendan Drumm has accepted the position as head the Health Service Executive.

The appointment was endorsed by the board of the executive tonight.

Earlier negotiations to appoint Prof Drumm broke down over a failure to allow his return to a job equivalent of what he was now doing after his term as CEO in five years.

This has been resolved however, with Prof Drumm returning to an academic role in UCD after his tenure in the Health Service Executive.

He's currently professor of paediatrics at UCD and a consultant at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
