Best arrested in child assault probe

Football legend George Best has been arrested on suspicion of indecently assaulting a young girl, it emerged today.

The ex-Manchester United star is alleged to have attacked the girl, who is aged under 13, at an address in Surrey last month.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “We have received an allegation of indecent assault against a 59-year-old man who was arrested on June 9.

“The allegations concern a girl under the age of 13, and the incident is said to have taken place in May.”

He added: “We’re not prepared to discuss details of this investigation any further.”
