Forum on human rights underway in Dublin
The Department of Foreign Affairs is holding its Annual NGO Forum on Human Rights in Dublin today.
The need to link economic development in the third world with respect for human rights is being highlighted as the core issue.
Among the key speakers today is the former President of Zambia, Dr Kenneth Kuanda.
Dr Kuanda, who is known as a tireless worker in the fight against HIV/AIDS, said there is a real need for richer nations to help improve trade in Africa.
“The elimination of debt will certainly play a very very significant role in tackling the central problem on the continent of Africa, which is poverty,” he added.
The forum was opened by the Minister of State with special responsibility for Development Cooperation and Human Rights Conor Lenihan.
