Youngsters from two Dublin schools have staged a protest on Grafton Street against child labour ahead of Sunday's World Day Against Child Labour.

Youngsters from two Dublin schools have staged a protest on Grafton Street against child labour ahead of Sunday's World Day Against Child Labour.

It is estimated that up to 250 million children are locked in bonded servitude, in mainly Asian and African countries.

The principal of Zion Parish Primary in Rathgar, Tom Connaty, said that today's exercise was about educating the equivalent age group here about the situation.

He pointed out that the price of an ipod music player, at about €200, could take 20 families out of bonded labour in India.
