Technicians and electricians working at the Rye Valley Foods factory in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, are to strike from Monday following the failure of talks aimed at averting the protest.

Technicians and electricians working at the Rye Valley Foods factory in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, are to strike from Monday following the failure of talks aimed at averting the protest.

Thirty workers attached to the TEEU are taking the action following the company's decision to close the plant next week while new equipment is being installed.

The TEEU members are angry that they are not taking part in the installation.

They say they have been told along with the plant's 650 other staff that they must take annual leave while the changeover is ongoing or be left without pay for the week.

If the dispute is not resolved in the next 10 days, the strike could still be in place when the factory reopens on Monday week.
