Senior gardaí facing possible dismissal after Morris criticism
A number of senior gardaí are facing possible dismissal following publication of the Morris Tribunal's second report yesterday.
The report concluded that gardaí in Donegal attempted to frame two innocent men for a murder that never happened.
Mr Justice Frederick Morris said the gardaí were "consumed" by the belief Frank McBrearty Jr and Mark McConnell were guilty of murdering cattle dealer Richie Barron.
Mr Barron died in a 1996 hit-and-run accident in which the two men were not involved.
The Morris Report singled out several senior gardaí who, he said, shared the burden of fault for the matter and Minister for Justice Michael McDowell must now decide whether these officers should be dismissed.
