Labour votes for FG pre-election pact

The Labour Party has voted for a pre-election pact with Fine Gael.

The vote at the Labour Party national conference in Tralee was passed by a majority of almost four votes to one.

Party Leader Pat Rabbite told delegates told they could vote for a possible position in power or to stay in opposition.

He told Fine Gael they could join Labour on agreed terms in government or they could join them in opposition.

The two-hour debate heard impassioned speeches for and against the pact.
