GAMA tells workers picketing is 'illegal'

The GAMA construction company has claimed that the picketing of its sites in Dublin by SIPTU is illegal, and an attempt to force an unjustified settlement on the company.

The claim follows an appeal made earlier today by the Minister for Trade and Enterprise, Michael Martin, to GAMA workers not to go on a hunger strike.

Up to 300 of the Turkish construction workers have been picketing sites and engaging in public protests since the beginning of April.

They say they were forced by GAMA Construction to work more than 80 hours a week, but were only paid for a 48-hour week at trade union rates.
