Police in the North have said they are no longer treating the death of an American backpacker in Belfast on Sunday night as murder.

Ashly Rowland, aged 29, from New Mexico, was found with head injuries outside a hostel on Fitzwilliam Street, near Queen's University.

A woman was arrested shortly afterwards in connection with the death but she has now been released on police bail.

Despite saying they are no longer treating the case as murder, detectives confirmed today that they were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the young woman's death.
