Post-mortem due on murdered bricklayer

A post-mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a bricklayer shot dead in front of his girlfriend at a house in Dublin.

A lone gunman broke into the property at Ballyfermot Parade in the west of the city and singled out 22-year-old Martin Kenny.

The victim, who was from the area, died almost instantly.

Neither his partner, nor her 14-year-old brother, who was also in the house, were injured. The killer, who was masked, fled on foot.

Gardaí sealed off the scene soon after the 5am attack as the State Pathologist and a forensic team moved in to carry out examinations.

No motive has been established for a shooting that shocked neighbours.

Unlike other gangland killings in Dublin, Garda sources said the victim was not well known to them.
