Man found on roadside is critically ill

A man found lying on a road in Co Meath early this morning is critically ill in Beaumont Hospital.

Gardaí say they've no idea whether he was the victim of a hit and run accident or an assault.

They haven't been able to interview the man yet. He is believed to be in his fifties and was found lying on the Eastham Road near Bettystown early this morning.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have information on the incident to call gardaí at Drogheda.
